Bas started on a project secondment basis at a leading global superyacht builder, where he is involved in the construction of one of the largest superyacht in the Netherlands. Here, he is supervising the mechanical discipline during the outfitting phase.
The introduction
We got in touch with Bas in August 2022. His then-current project was nearing its end. Bas was considering which follow-up projects or career steps he wanted to take. Both Bas and Maritime Professionals value personal contact. After a series of telephone conversations, we decided to meet in person in September. It is always valuable to speak to each other in person and discover where the interlocutor's passion lies.
Ambitions
During the introductory talks, we discussed Bas' work experience, among other things. We saw that he was involved in refits or conversions, coordinating the entire process in the role of project manager. His duties included consulting with owner representation, managing proposal, engineering, setting up the construction strategy and managing production and subcontractors. After successfully completing several projects in conversion and ship repair, Bas was looking for another challenge: collaborating on an entire new construction project. This could be in both shipbuilding and yacht building.
The match
Bas expressed a preference to take on a new project within a 1-hour drive radius. Together, we started looking for possible clients within that distance. Soon, we ended up at a shipyard in his neighbourhood that is currently building a superyacht. This yard regularly makes requests for professionals with his knowledge and skills. This turned out to be an interesting match for both parties.
The interviews and onboarding
Interviews with the client soon followed, which were successfully completed. Bas was welcomed to both the client and Maritime Professionals. However, the planned start at the beginning of the year was postponed for several months due to change orders on Bas' conversion project. This project ran six months longer than originally planned. Of course, we understand the dynamics of this kind of project, and both the client and Bas were flexible in their approach. As a result, Bas started a bit later. Bas now enjoys working in the project team.
